Immanuel hosts a chapter of
Reformers Unanimous International.  It is a Christ-centered, Bible-based addiction program.

We meet every Friday from 7:00-9:00 p.m.  This is a time of training, food, fellowship, and support. There is a curriculum we follow to insure we learn the truths of God's word.

Our theme is, "You shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

Our Motto is Psalm One:  "1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish."

We meet "every" Friday evening at the church for RU. We believe the church is the "ultimate support group".

Each Friday Night RU Meeting is split into three different segments (which we call TALK, TALK, TALK).

These three segments are as follows:

  • We Talk To God:  Prayer and Testimonies

  • We Talk To Each Other:  Counsel Groups

  • God Talks To Us:  Preaching

Our local Reformers Unanimous Program has opened the door for a dynamic new Jail Ministry.  Each Tuesday, Reformers Unanimous goes to the Harlan County Detention Center.  Every prisoner who wants to hear a Bible lesson has that privilege.  We have a treat for each prisoner.  We have had a number of these make public commitments to the Lord, followed by baptism, and are now serving the Lord in local churches.  God has given the increase, and people are being set free.

On Wednesday or Friday, there is another visit to the jail to do follow up for those who need individual help. God has richly blessed this ministry.

RU is helping bringing the TRUTH that sets people free to those who need it.  We reach out to both young and old, no matter what addiction the person might have.  Jesus said that you would know the truth, and the truth would make you free.  Jesus said, "I am the way, the Truth, and the life..."  Jesus Christ is the one who makes us free.  This is more than just memorizing some information.  It is the growing knowledge of Jesus Christ that grants freedom!

On Friday Nights, the weekly Reformers Unanimous Meeting at Immanuel is held at the upper building in what is the Dining Hall at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone meets in the Dining Hall and a RU Video from its founder is played to the group.  The video will be based on one of Reformers Unanimous' 10 Principles.   After this is the time of Greetings and Prayer.

After this, the individual groups will dismiss to their rooms to talk, talk, talk.  After this time of sharing, all groups meet back at the Dining Hall for refreshments.   After this, Pastor Martin will deliver the night's message for a short time to all.

These meetings not only are here to help any who have any kind of addiction, but are very good Bible Studies that would be good for anyone.

Ten Recovery Principles

1- If God is against it, so am I.

2- Every sin has in the heart.

3- It is easier to keep the heart clean than it is to clean it after it has been defiled.

4- It is not possible to fight a fleshly appetite by indulging in it.

5- Small compromises lead to great disasters (or little sins lead to big sins).

6- Those who do not love the Lord will not help us serve the Lord.

7- Our sinful habits do hurt those who are following us.

8- It is not possible to fight a fleshly temptation with fleshly weapons.

9- We lose our freedom of choice after we have chosen our actions. The consequences of our choices are inevitable, incalculable, and up to God.

10- God balances guilt with blame. When we accept the blame for our actions, God, by our repentance and confession, will eliminate the guilt.
